WHAT IS A SCENARIO OR BIG GAME?

What is a scenario or big game? Is there a difference?

Most outdoor Paintball and/or Airsoft Parks will run a Big Game or a Scenario Game by combining all or a large number of their fields (maps) into one big playing field.

A Big Game usually is just that, a game on a large area with a large number of participants. There are usually objectives such as capturing flags or items associated with the theme of the game. The themes can range from Red vs. Blue (capturing flags) to Santa’s vs. Grinch’s (obtaining Christmas Items). Players may also have to defend certain areas of the field from the opposing team. In our Battle for Mt. Suribachi game players for the Japanese Infantry are supposed to hold on the high ground and not let the American’s overrun the hill. Most Big Games last 2 to 8 hrs.

In a Scenario there are more objectives to obtain and missions to complete. Scenario play always has a theme and objectives are based on objects in a story, video game or have historical significance. More rules are involved to make sure missions are completed correctly and items collected are brought to the right areas to complete missions. In Scenario play groups within a team might be given specific missions within the game. They could be asked to arrive at a place on the field and defend it, set up an ambush or secure an item and bring it to another group on the field. Most Scenario Games can last several hours to a couple of days.

In a Big or Scenario Game players will role-play. Someone will be asked to be a commander; in our Christmas game players are asked to be the Santa or the Grinch and command their teams by carrying the Team Flag down the field. There might be medics or healers. These players put in a lot of work so really think about it if you want to volunteer for that part. There might be players who play specific parts within a story line from a movie or video game or “historical re-enactment”. In our Redcoats vs. Rebels Big Game people are asked if they want to play the parts of John Hancock and Sam Adams. There could also be a “Benedict Arnold” or a player that acts as a traitor or spy. Other roles could be inserted into a game to control game play. We use a Juggernaut, Tank or Abominable Snowman that enters the game at a certain time to help eliminate players or distract them. Most times these players cannot be eliminated by a simple paintball shot but must be hit by a rocket or paint grenade.

The major difference between a Big Game and a Scenario Game is the details. Scenario Games usually have lots of detail-oriented missions and the games last much longer. Big Games are usually simple and don’t take too long to complete. Both styles of game play welcome a wide range of players. If you are just starting out it might be better to try a Big Game first. Lots of players like Big Games because it’s just that a big game with lots of people to eliminate. There are definitely players who really get into the objectives and missions and will often dress up to play their roles. This makes the games more fun for everyone. If you do play in one it is a day you won’t soon forget!

Airsoft is a military simulation based game. Opponents use *Airsoft replicas to shoot plastic BB’s. Airsoft is similar to Paintball because it can be fast paced and requires being hit by a projectile. The difference is the BB’s do not splat on impact. BB’s are not filled with any substance that could mark the hit opponent. It is a game of honor. Players must call themselves out when hit. Airsoft games are also much more technical and most game play is scenario based. There is usually and objective or many objectives to complete a game. Games can last 5 minutes in CQB/Speedsoft or hours in scenario type games. *Airsoft replicas are made to look like real firearms and come in all types of formats from pistols and rifles to snipers. It is very important for parents to understand what their kids are getting into and to treat all equipment that expels a projectile as if it were a real firearm. The safety should be engaged, magazines should be out and breach clear when not in an active game. Barrel blocking devices are also required and must attach to the replica to prevent accidentally expelling a projectile. Full face masks are required during play. Eye protection must be rated for Paintball and Airsoft play and sealed to the face to prevent entry to the eye area.. Your nose, cheeks, mouth and ears must be covered by Airsoft approved mesh or mask or a baklava that cannot be removed during play.

White cake mix according to directions. Half of the white cake mix will be used for the green or pink. I used green since it was a boys birthday party. 10 drops of food coloring is enough. Use two of the egg yolks (leftover from the white cake mix) and one more whole egg for the chocolate cake mix. Save money and buy one chocolate frosting and two white frosting from the dollar store. They are smaller but it’s all you’ll need. 5 – 7 drops of food coloring for the green or pink. Use a frosting bag with the flower tip. Put all three colors in the bag next to each other so they all come out at the same time. This was a fun activity for myself and the kids. Let them be part of making their special day happen.

Compressed Air Tanks require certification in the United States and Europe. In the United States the DOT ( Department of Transportation ) enforce the standards set by CGA ( Compressed Gas Association ). In Europe the UN ( United Nations ) and EU ( European Union ) enforce the standards set by ISO ( International Standards Organization ). It is very expensive for manufacturers in paintball, or any industry that uses cylinders, to be part of ISO and CGA. This ensures safety standards for all when it comes to manufacture and use of cylinders. If you have a tank with an ISO number and you live and play paintball in the US you need to make sure your tank also has the UN symbol and the USA certification code stamped on your tank in conjunction with the ISO number. If your tank only has an ISO number it is NOT VALID for use in the United States. All of these tanks are still subject to Hydro Testing every 5 years and all tanks have a 15-year lifespan. Be aware of tanks made by Inocom, Luxfer and Carelton that require a 3-year hydro test and 15-year lifespan. Be an ambassador for our sport. Make sure your gear is compliant with United States Standards. Drop your tank at any Velocity Paintball location for hydrotest. Cost is $25. Out of state? No problem. E-mail denise@velocitypb.com a picture of your tank label to make sure your tank meets the requirements. Fill out the Services Form with Payment Info. Click the link below.
